Verified Data

Confirmed Project Facts

What we can verify about this engagement — no estimated or invented figures.

1

Shared Backend

One Node.js and MongoDB platform powers every client — nothing is duplicated per platform.

2

Markets Served

The platform serves diners across both the UAE and Qatar from a single codebase and backend.

3

Native Platforms

A React/Vue.js web app plus fully native Swift (iOS) and Kotlin (Android) apps.

4

Core Journeys

Menu discovery, restaurant locator, combo promotions and loyalty campaigns.

Nando's is a global PERi-PERi chicken restaurant brand — this engagement covered its UAE and Qatar operations specifically.

Apptechies built the ordering, restaurant-locator, promotions and loyalty experience used by diners across both markets, spanning a React and Vue.js web app plus native Swift (iOS) and Kotlin (Android) apps, backed by a Node.js and MongoDB platform on AWS.

Problem Space

The Challenges

Core Challenge

Business Challenge

Nando's needed one consistent ordering, loyalty and locator experience across two markets and three platforms — without the brand experience fragmenting depending on where or how a customer opened the app.

Engineering Approach

Our Strategy

One backend, every client

A single Node.js and MongoDB platform became the source of truth for menu, location, promotion and loyalty data — consumed identically by web, iOS and Android.

Native where it matters

Swift and Kotlin were used for the mobile apps specifically so location services, notifications and everyday interactions feel native on each platform.

Fewest taps to a nearby table

Restaurant discovery and menu browsing were kept to as few steps as possible — that is the first thing a hungry customer does.

Loyalty as a core flow

Combo promotions and loyalty campaigns were treated as first-class parts of the ordering journey, not a bolted-on rewards tab.

Delivered Systems

Solution Overview

Four core journeys, one consistent platform across web, iOS and Android.

Browsing the current menu, categories and combo deals for the nearest restaurant.

Finding the closest Nando's location across the UAE and Qatar in a few taps.

Surfacing active combo deals and promotions relevant to each diner.

Tracking and redeeming loyalty rewards as part of the ordering flow, not a separate app.

Category-Driven Food Discovery

Visual Menu & Categories

A visual, category-first browsing flow designed for high speed — diners can effortlessly navigate Snackettes, Quickies, Healthy(ish), Hearty platters and sides with rich imagery.

User Journeys

UI/UX Approach

1

Start From Location

Every session starts by narrowing to the nearest restaurant, so the menu and promotions shown are always relevant to that location.

2

One Design Language, Three Platforms

Web, iOS and Android share the same visual language and interaction patterns, even though the underlying code is written independently for each.

3

Rewards in the Flow, Not a Detour

Loyalty points and combo deals are surfaced during ordering itself, rather than requiring a trip to a separate rewards screen.

CLIENT LAYER

Client Layer

Web app (React, Vue.js), a native iOS app (Swift) and a native Android app (Kotlin).

API LAYER

API Layer

A Node.js backend service exposing menu, locator, promotions and loyalty data through shared contracts.

DATA LAYER

Data Layer

MongoDB storing menu, restaurant location, promotion and loyalty-account data for both markets.

Technology Decisions

Technology Stack

Frontend & Web

React

Powers key parts of the customer-facing web experience with a fast, component-driven interface.

Vue.js

Used alongside React across the web layer for building and maintaining UI at pace.

Mobile

Swift

Native iOS development for a fast, platform-native experience on iPhone.

Kotlin

Native Android development for a fast, platform-native experience on Android.

Backend & Infra

Node.js

A single backend service layer serving menu, locator, promotions and loyalty data consistently to every platform.

MongoDB

Flexible document storage suited to menu, promotion and location data that varies by restaurant and market.

AWS

Cloud infrastructure sized to handle traffic across both the UAE and Qatar markets.

Security & Scalability

Built for Two Markets

The backend was built to serve both the UAE and Qatar from one consistent platform, keeping menu and promotion data in sync across markets.

Consistent Across Three Platforms

Web, iOS and Android all draw from the same backend, so a menu or promotion change appears everywhere at once.

Standard Engineering Safeguards

Encryption in transit, scoped access control and independent code review are baseline practice on every engagement — no specific third-party compliance certification for this engagement is publicly documented, so we're not claiming one.

Methodology & Execution

Development Process

Our standard 7-phase delivery framework, applied to this engagement.

Phase 01

Discovery & Strategy

Mapping the real customer journey — find a restaurant, browse the menu, order, redeem rewards.

Phase 02

Architecture & Planning

Designing one backend contract that web, iOS and Android could all build against independently.

Phase 03

UX & UI Design

Keeping menu, locator and loyalty flows consistent in language across three different platforms.

Phase 04

Agile Development

Building the web app, native iOS app and native Android app in parallel against shared backend contracts.

Phase 05

Quality Assurance

Testing ordering, locator and loyalty flows across both markets and all three platforms.

Phase 06

Launch & Deployment

Rolling the platform out across the UAE and Qatar without disrupting an already-operating restaurant business.

Phase 07

Support & Growth

Ongoing engineering support as menus, promotions and markets continue to evolve.

Engineering Challenges & How We Solved Them

Challenge

A menu update or new combo promotion needed to appear identically on web, iOS and Android at the same time, without one platform lagging behind.

Apptechies Solution

A single Node.js backend became the only source of truth — every client reads from the same API, so there's no per-platform content drift.

Challenge

Building fully native iOS and Android apps means writing platform-specific code twice, which risks the two apps drifting apart in behavior over time.

Apptechies Solution

Core flows — locator, ordering, loyalty — were kept to the same information architecture on both platforms, even though the underlying Swift and Kotlin code is written independently for each.

Challenge

The UAE and Qatar needed to be served from the same platform without treating either market as an afterthought.

Apptechies Solution

Restaurant, menu and promotion data were modeled in MongoDB so each market's content is managed independently while running on shared infrastructure.

Business Impact

What this platform means for the business, in plain terms.

  • One ordering, loyalty and locator experience across Web, iOS and Android — not three disconnected products.
  • Menu and promotion updates go out once, through the shared backend, and apply everywhere immediately.
  • A platform built to serve both the UAE and Qatar from the same codebase, rather than retrofitted for a second market later.
